FSB’s award-winning design for the Headquarters Air Reserve Personnel Center provides a tangible home for a virtual program.

Nearly 100,000 Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard troops are serviced by the Air Reserve Personnel Center (ARPC). Providing a physical home for web-based virtual personnel services, this administrative facility allows troops deployed around the world to handle necessary paperwork related to promotions, as well as service entry, assignments, separations and retirement.

Working with multiple client groups, base personnel and in conjunction with adjacent simultaneous projects, the FSB team served as the A/E of Record for a new Air Reserve Personnel Center located at Buckley Air Force Base. Aesthetics, function and enhanced security needs were carefully balanced through close collaboration between center staff, base personnel and neighboring facilities.

Careful attention was paid to capitalize on mountain views to the northwest and southwest, while not blocking these same views for other facilities. A south-facing entryway for the facility aids in ice and snow removal during winter months.

The placement of mechanical equipment keeps it out of the weather, out of sight and easily maintainable. Low roof space was utilized as an outdoor break area for upper levels, and surplus soil excavations were utilized to construct an earthen barrier to limit line of sight views from the base perimeter.
