The FSB team served as the A/E of Record for this new flight simulator, which serves pilots and crew who are receiving ongoing training for the C‑130J, one of the military’s most utilized cargo transport aircraft. The complete building design includes a C‑130J motion bay, cockpit trainer, classrooms, briefing rooms and other support areas. The design features both a secure and non-secure side, which provides the base with usage flexibility.
A significant portion of the project was the incorporation of the most recent anti-terrorism/force protection guidelines into the overall facility. The secure side of the building is designed to ICD‑705 (SCIF) standards. Compartmentalized construction with sound-rated walls and electronic security systems are separated from public areas, offices and classrooms. This again allows greater flexibility for the ANG personnel at this installation. Simulator equipment requires close coordination with the simulator equipment manufacturer, and FSB’s engineers’ simulator experience proved invaluable to execute this coordination.
Because the site the client wanted to use site was located within a flood plain, FSB analyzed the site and assessed the risks associated with this site. This analysis was then utilized to propose an alternate site without these substantial risks and associated costs, which allowed the project to stay within budget.
