The award-winning Composite Support Complex combines base services into one central — and convenient — hub.
Military personnel stationed at the Tulsa Air National Guard Base receive better service following the completion of the Composite Support Complex, which serves as a focal point for base activities. FSB provided all architectural and engineering services, including the design charrette, site master planning, comprehensive interior design and construction administration, for this key project. The 44,840 SF multifunction complex also includes a 1,700 SF hazardous materials pharmacy, and renovation of two existing buildings consisting of 15,400 SF.
Programming a multitude of different functions into a single facility had design challenges, but ensuring those areas were also able to inter-relate and work with one another in an efficient, functional manner added another level of complexity. The resulting design incorporated two major building blocks, connected in the middle by a striking two-level glass enclosed atrium. This design allowed for the building occupants to be separated into their functional groups while still being in one central hub to enhance their overall mission performance.
The two-story Composite Support Complex is home to a kitchen, food service area and dining room capable of serving 400 personnel per shift with three shifts daily. Also included is a medical training facility, operation and training facilities for wing staff and command functions, offices for accounting and finance, mission support flight, family services, chaplain, social actions, judge advocate, public affairs, safety and state staff. A physical fitness facility is included as well as POV parking areas and landscaping.
