New C-17 Beddown Projects including Flight Simulator, Parts Store, Engine Storage and Squadron Operations Facilities help ensure reliability of one of the military’s most utilized aircraft.

Travis Air Force Base is home to one of the military’s most flexible cargo aircraft, the C-17. Capable of tactical airlift, air drop and aeromedical evacuations, it is known for its reliability, with a warranty that guarantees only 20 aircraft maintenance man-hours needed per flying hour and a 75% mission availability rate.

To help meet these demanding standards, FSB assisted the base personnel by serving as designer and A/E of Record for several new C-17 Beddown Projects including a Flight Simulator, Squadron Operations Facility and Parts Store, each with sustainable design and incorporated anti-terrorism/force protection features.

The Squadron Operations Facility houses space for all functional elements of a C-17 operational squadron for the Air Mobility Command, with conference rooms, classrooms and training areas, administrative offices, tool rooms and additional storage. The parts store also features administrative space and a conference room, along with a high-bay warehouse with waiting and staging areas, plus loading dock facilities and an additional engine storage area. The Flight Simulator, meanwhile, contains a simulator motion bay, plus a loadmaster station, computer and utility rooms, classrooms and offices. The latter also is designed to accommodate future expansion for an additional weapon system trainer and associated support equipment.
