Designed with all the latest technology, UCO’s Center for Transformative Learning lives up to its name.
Learning environments in higher education have transformed in recent decades. That change started with the name itself when University of Central Oklahoma officials challenged FSB to design and create their new Center for Transformative Learning. The goal was to create their next generation learning environment that would serve as a collaborative, optimal venue for various campus departments, faculty and others to host workshops, webinars, forums, discussion groups, “lunch & learn” programs and additional educational opportunities.
To meet this cross spectrum of learning needs, the FSB team produced a flexible, interactive two-story building design that utilizes contemporary audiovisual and wireless technology throughout each of its 10 classrooms and multiple conference rooms.
Smaller breakout rooms and alcove areas provide plenty of informal space for use by small groups and individuals, while the east side of the building is home to an outdoor classroom and an exterior seating plaza. Offices for both full-time and adjunct faculty are included in the facility, along with a coffee bar and a food service area. The facility also contains a uniquely designed auditorium that is multi-functional, doubling as a music performance hall with adjustable acoustics and a lecture hall.
In keeping with UCO’s dedication to sustainable development, the center was designed and built using green technology and principles to meet all LEED certification requirements.
