Strategizing for the future — A comprehensive new master plan gives Cameron University the road map to success.
A fresh perspective was what Cameron University officials had in mind when they contracted with FSB to produce a master plan for their Lawton and Duncan campuses, a plan that would envision the university’s future needs, play to its academic strengths, enhance student campus life and boost the Cameron brand.
For Master Plan 2025, the FSB team investigated the university’s current condition and needs on both campuses, including overall projected growth, classroom use, campus identity, future academic and support facilities, parking, campus perimeter and entrances, safety and the continued development of “green” space within a pedestrian and visitor-friendly environment. The team met extensively with all stakeholders in the project, from Cameron’s steering committee and top executives to its faculty, staff, students, maintenance crews and vendors. Members of the broader Lawton and Duncan communities were consulted as well, in recognition of the enormous impact Cameron has on each of these cities.
Decisions were then based on hard data and informed assumptions, gleaned through the process and taking all options into consideration. FSB’s final report, “The Path Forward,” provided Cameron with a recommended road map for future projects, including general budget and schedule projections. A number of recommendations, such as the relocation of parking lots and changes to vehicle/pedestrian pathways to improve student safety, have already been implemented by the university.
