Enriching lives and preserving heritage through Native art and performance.
To complement its major new Cultural Center and Village at the Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Sulphur, Oklahoma, leaders of Oklahoma’s Chickasaw Nation determined to explore completing the enrichment experience, beginning with creation of a design for an adjacent Fine Arts and Performing Arts Center.
Accordingly, FSB was commissioned by the Chickasaw Nation to partner with them in the design of this center, as a prospective future home for Chickasaw artists and performers. Planned for a site north of the Cultural Center, the center’s design would take advantage of the surrounding terrain’s contours, with the facility “draped” over the sides of a natural promontory and finished with stonework and wood consistent with other nearby Chickasaw buildings.
FSB’s design for the Performing Arts Center also will incorporate a centrally located multi-purpose Great Hall with an elevated ceiling, symbolically representing a traditional Chickasaw Winter House. Two performance theaters, one large and one small, plus a recording studio, art galleries, a media resource center, a bistro and administrative offices are included as well. A final element is an Arts Institute, which will contain classrooms, an education center and a general education wing. Also included in the center is a media resource center and a bistro.
